Press Release - October 9, 2007
SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Quad-Lock Building Systems is pleased to announce their fire resistance rating results. A 3-hour fire rating was achieved for a nominal 6-inch (5.76-inch / 147mm) wall. Extrapolated ratings give Quad-Lock's nominal 4-inch (3.75-inch / 96mm) wall a 2-hour rating and a nominal 8-inch (197mm) or greater wall a 4-hour rating.
The 6-inch wall was burned at 2000°F (1100°C), under full load (30,000 lbs/linear foot) for 3 hours. In addition to the fire test, the wall also passed the hose stream test. All tests were conducted according to EN 1365-1, CAN/ULC-S101-04-3rd Edition, ANSI/UL 263-13th Edition and ASTM E119-07 standards.
These results are significant since testing was done on an 'ordinary' 6-inch wall. Hubert Max Kustermann, CEO of Quad-Lock, explains "The walls that we tested had no fibers in the concrete mix, it was a typical 2,900 psi (20MPa) mix with regular steel reinforcement. This exceeds the test results of many other wall systems by 50% and more".
Quad-Lock's ICF wall system has other qualities that are unique in the industry. Wall cavity sizes are virtually limitless and corners of any angle can be made on-site with no special ordering. With Quad-Lock, builders can work from the safety of the inside of the building minimizing the amount of scaffolding required and Quad-Lock easily adapts to any wall elevation. No other ICF can build around complex rebar patterns like Quad-Lock. "If I had to pick one feature about our system that is most impressive," Bennion states "it would have to be the fact that there is literally no job-site waste, any foam scraps can be used for additional insulation around service pipes or if you want to recycle, you don't have to separate the ties from the foam like you do with other systems. Recycling using another ICF can be very labor-intensive and in most cases, just simply doesn't get done."
Quad-Lock Building Systems manufactures and distributes Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) systems for walls, floors and roofs. Quad-Lock ICFs are made with high density, fire retardant expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads. They contain no formaldehyde, HFCs, HCFCs or other harmful substances. Quad-Lock's wall systems have 4 panel types, 2 panel sizes, 10 wall configurations and virtually limitless wall thicknesses, resulting in R-values ranging from R-22 to R-38 - the highest in the industry!
