Try This Roofline
With a Block!
Thanks to Paul McKenna of MCK Civil
Engineering & Building Contractors Ltd, in Ireland, who recently
sent us pictures of this home being built. The roofline is quite unique
and would be extremely difficult to cut using a block-style ICF.
We are waiting on more pictures, so stay tuned...

Safe Rooms: Priority in the Gulf Zone
Last week, our South Central Texas dealer,
SCT Wall Systems, was the lead
story on the 6pm and 10pm newscasts on KAVU Ch 25 in Victoria, TX.

Their client, a local soils engineer, wanted the two-bedroom addition
on his family residence to be disaster-proof shelter for his family in
the event of a tornado or hurricane. SCT Wall Systems, with help from
Quad-Lock's Training and Technical Services Dept., installed a 20 x 30
ft. (6 x 9 m) reinforced Quad-Lock/Quad-Deck building envelope in 5
days. In addition to serving as bedrooms, the reinforced concrete roof
deck will be the family's new patio and hot-tub area, with a view of
their 75-acre ranch.
The 6-inch (152mm) exterior Quad-Lock walls support an 8-inch (203mm)
Quad-Deck floor/roof with a 3-inch (76mm) concrete slab, clear spanning
18 feet (5.5m). The walls and floor were poured monolithically (22 cu.
Yds.) in 2 hrs 45 minutes by a crew of 4 concrete placers and 4 concrete
finishers. A crystalline admixture was added to the concrete which will
lend self-waterproofing qualities to the roof slab in the event of
cracking. The exterior Quad-Lock FS panels will support fiber cement
siding, with gypsum drywall on the interior. Spanish tile will cover the
roof/patio slab, and a powder coated steel railing will be installed.
Many of you do business in areas that are prime markets for
"safe-rooms". Quad-Lock has the products and expertise to help you
access this business. Our photo and video gallery is growing, and our
building details improve daily. Our field trainers can practically build
these in their sleep. The main area of concern seems to be the
floor-to-wall connection, and we have easy-to-read details that will
show how this is done.
