Quad-Deck Joist and Deck Forming System
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Quad-Deck?
Quad-Deck is a versatile forming system for suspended concrete floors and
deck roofs. It provides superior heat and noise insulating qualities.
What is Quad-Deck made of?
Quad-Deck panels are made of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and have
integrated steel beams molded into the panel that create formwork for the
support of concrete and reinforcement.
What are the sizes of Quad-Deck?
Quad-Deck is available in 7 different thicknesses (7", 8", 9", 10",11",
12" and 12.5"), creating concrete beam depths of 5" to 10.5". It is custom
cut at the factory.
What is the R-value?
Depending on job requirements, Quad-Deck offers R-values ranging from
R-10 to R-25.
How far of a span can I build?
Quad-Deck can be used to achieve up to about 34 foot clear spans. Once
you start getting longer than that, other secondary structural support may
be required; e.g. slab bands, girders etc. Always remember, it is the
Structural Engineer who will determine the thickness, allowable span and
required reinforcing bars for any project. Quad-Lock has the tables that
will suggest allowable spans.
How is Quad-Deck braced?
Quad-Deck needs to be supported underneath with typical shoring. Shoring
should not be further than 6 feet apart. A Structural Engineer is
responsible for the correct layout. The Quad-Deck acts as its own formwork
so no plywood, etc. is required which makes Quad-Deck quick to install –
which saves labour.
What is the cost of Quad-Deck?
Consult your local Quad-Lock Dealer for pricing. Quad-Deck makes sense
for commercial work and in residential applications if the requirement is
for a concrete slab (in-floor heating), long clear spans without posts and
if the house has a fairly straight forward layout.
