Hamilton Family of Kelowna Receives Donated Quad-Lock Materials

Jim and Nicole Hamilton of Kelowna were chosen on Friday to receive Quad-Lock Insulating Concrete Forming materials to rebuild their home that was lost during the recent forest fires in Kelowna. On September 19th Quad-Lock Building Systems Ltd. released details announcing how they wanted to help those families significantly impacted by the recent fires by donating its building product. Those families interested were asked to contact Quad-Lock. Of the names submitted, Jim and Nicole were chosen.

Quad-Lock’s Technical Representative Ron Rikley along with OK Builders Supplies Ltd, the local supplier of Quad-Lock, will work with the Hamilton’s to ensure that product is readily available and the construction crews are properly trained.

The Hamilton’s have chosen to build an off-grid home with walls up to 22’ high. “Off-grid homes have no connections to the regular utilities such as power, water or telephone so electricity must be generated with a generator and / or solar panels. Because generators can be noisy and expensive to run, there is much reliance on the solar panels. Energy efficient technologies like Quad-Lock are the perfect solution” says Jim Hamilton.

“This home is an ideal application for Quad-Lock Insulating Concrete Forms. We’re excited to showcase Quad-Lock’s superior energy efficient properties, which will enable the Hamilton’s to run their home on solar heating most of the time keeping the generator handy as a back up for extreme temperatures” says Quad-Lock’s CEO Hubert Max Kustermann.

Quad-Lock panels are made from expanded polystyrene. There is an interior and exterior panel, which forms a cavity. Concrete is poured into the cavity to form your walls. This Insulating Concrete Form system offers many benefits when compared to other types of construction. These include: walls that are airtight and better insulated (lower energy costs), quieter (STC Rating of 57), fire resistant (4 hour rating), resistant to natural disasters (earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, etc.), non-toxic and not susceptible to rot. Quad-Lock Building Systems Ltd. also offers Quad-Deck, an insulating roof and floor forming system which, when used with Quad-Lock, completes your fire-resistant shell of the house.

Construction will begin once the site is excavated and plans and permits are submitted to the district - hopefully before the end of 2003. Congratulations to the Hamilton’s!
